You can delete your Pocket Museum account whenever you want, and you do not need the app installed to ask. Deletion is permanent. There is no undo and we cannot restore an account once it has gone.
1. In the app
This is the quickest route if you still have the app.
Open Account → Data & Privacy → Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE and to enter your current password. Both are deliberate: a password is required so that somebody who picks up an unlocked phone cannot delete your account.
Your account stops working immediately.
2. By email
If you have removed the app, or you would rather not sign in, email [email protected] with Delete my account in the subject line.
Send it from the email address the account uses. If you cannot, tell us the address you signed up with so we can find the account. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, because we cannot let one person delete another person's account.
We will confirm when it is done.
3. What deletion removes
We remove your profile, your login details and the content you created, and we disconnect your name from anything that remains.
Visit records linked to your account are de-identified rather than deleted: we sever the link to you and keep the anonymous usage record. The label that replaces you is a random value stored nowhere, so the record cannot be traced back to you.
4. What survives, and why
Some information outlives the account. These are the only reasons, and they are the same four set out in section 9 of our Privacy Policy:
- (a) comments you left on other people's content may stay in place with your name removed, so the surrounding conversation is not destroyed;
- (b) moderation and safety records are kept for three years from the decision, because an appeal or a repeat-behaviour check is worthless if the record disappears on request;
- (c) records we must keep by law, or to establish or defend a legal claim, are kept for as long as that purpose lasts;
- (d) backups are overwritten on our normal cycle, so content may remain in backups for up to 30 days.
5. Deleting the app is not the same thing
Removing Pocket Museum from your device does not delete your account. Your account and anything attached to it stay with us until you ask us to delete them, by either route above.
6. If you only want some of it gone
You do not have to delete the whole account to exercise your rights. You can ask us to correct your information, to give you a copy of it, or to stop using it in a particular way. Section 11 of the Privacy Policy lists those rights and how to use them. Email [email protected]; there is no charge and we will respond within one month.
